the reason - hoobastank
01.02.24 i posted the last few days leading up to christmas and then on christmas day i posted 'just give me a reason' by p!nk. i'm not really sure if this did anything, but it did create some fun conversations with friends. that's really the only point to any of it, just having fun.
12.22.23 i've just looked back and the first time i posted it on my story was 11 days ago (12.11.23) holy shit. the end is in sight
i'm posting 'the reason' by hoobastank on my instagram story a lot recently. a few reasons pushed me to do this bit. i've been thinking a lot about aesthetic and how they become an aesthetic. like, a gym with a line of treadmills and stationary bicycles overlooking a scenic view. or window's xp core. or cottage core. or any other aesthetic that exists those are all aesthetics that people created and have genuinely enjoyed because of the art. and ingenuine actors have abused those aesthetics to make money. that lead me to think about content and how modern content has become a game. the 'beastification' of youtube has been rampant. it has lead to a lot of ingenuine actors within the space. the ingenuine actors have found a way to mimic a honed content aesthetic for profit. they're making content to make money. this isn't to say that they're wrong for making what they make but to me, it doesn't sit right from a consumer point of view. i find myself enjoying content when i feel that the person themselves is making it for the love of the game i love watching or listening to stuff that is made by someone who loves making it. so for some modern content creators it's hard to see whether they enjoy the art form, or are just there to make content. so i had to face the question of what is the purpose of content. how was the aesthetic of content created? to me, content, like all art, is meant to create conversation and interest. at the end of the day, it's just another medium of art and expression. ingenuine actors make 'art' all of the time. the beginning of content was people making things for their friends, or just themselves to enjoy and live. so i started posting 'the reason' by hoobastank to my instagram story. instagram stories have a certain position within social media at the moment that uniquely positions itself people casually check friends stories for life updates and continuous 'content'. it's the perfect platform to post and create a story. by posting 'the reason' by hoobastank many times, initially 17 times one day, and then less frequently throughout, i can create a sense of intention through the posting. i like to imagine some people have sat there, even for a second, and assumed that there's an intention behind the posts, and then subsequently tried to reason themselves into why i've posted 'the reason' by hoobastank as much as i have. that's funny asf. my conversations with people since i've started this bit have proven that. i think that's content. or at least the beginnings of what created content. and understanding that can be a gateway to understanding the evolution and enjoyment of this artform.
